But that is a reason why Emory University as a whole is so unique. Oxford College is the same as the “engineering college”, or “college of arts and sciences”, or “business college” except that it has a different campus. Every opportunity offered at Emory College is available to all the students at Oxford College, as well as any opportunity offered exclusively to Oxford students. When transitioning to the Atlanta campus, that core group of friends is usually closer than any friend group on the Atlanta campus. In fact, the past 7 valedictorians of Emory University have started their journey at Oxford College.
Besides being academically more challenging and having opportunities at each student’s fingertips, Oxford’s small campus provides a community. Although the small campus may be unappealing to most, the ability to wake up 3 minutes before class and make it on time has its benefits. First of all, the people that surround you are going to be your best friends. They say when you transfer to the Atlanta campus, Oxford students often have their heads held higher and spend a lot more time with their friends. Social bonds are really easy to make when everyone is only a few steps away. Second, imagine you're starving at a random point in the day and want food. Now take two steps to the left and you're at the dining hall.
But if you dislike how close everyone is, Oxford is unique in that freshmen are allowed cars. Now you can drive to Taco Bell or Waffle House at 2am or drive down to Atlanta whenever you want. You have the freedom to leave campus. And if you don't have your own car, it is super easy to make friends that do and there is a shuttle system to transport you to the city, the Atlanta campus, and several grocery/drug stores.
