Tufts University
I visited Tufts during the fall through their Voices of Tufts Diversity Experiences fly-in and despite it lasting around a day, that day alone convinced me to apply Early Decision I (Tufts has ED I, ED II, and RD)! I had attended other fly-ins which spanned three to four days and even then I remained uncertain if those colleges were the one. I arrived at Tufts not knowing a single thing about the school and was immediately immersed in the community and everything it had to offer. In the midst of a hectic schedule and rain pouring down on me and the other participants, I couldn’t help but smile and think that this campus was where I wanted to spend the next four years drenched at.
Tufts University is located in Medford, Massachusetts, perched on top of a hill overlooking Boston which is conveniently close by. Besides being next to a city filled with a mixture of different cultures and endless entertainment, Tufts offers nearly 150 majors and 30 interdisciplinary studies. Tufts undergraduate programs are offered in three schools: Engineering, Arts and Sciences, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts! It’s possible to take classes across schools too!
Through talking with my fellow classmates, the one thing that drew us to Tufts and eventually convinced us to enroll was the people themselves. Jumbos are authentic, kindhearted, vibrant, and quirky in the best way possible. I experienced all of these traits through my time at Tufts. At my host’s room, the walls were littered with memes and full of lighthearted and playful banter. Prior to this, I remember joining a group of prospective students and current students who sat in a circle and talked about anything on our minds; we went from talking about a girl who identified as a goat at Tufts, to the agonizing feelings elicited when leaving your family for college.
In this circle we laughed, some cried, but everyone was supported and cared for. At Tufts you can express yourself and eventually find a niche to support you. From staff, to classmates, to your roommate, Tufts will embody the meaning of home.
I personally chose Tufts due to its proximity to Boston, their commitment to helping undocumented students, its liberal atmosphere, its amazing community, and because they offered amazing financial aid! I plan to dual major in Psychology with a Clinical concentration alongside Cognitive and Brain Sciences; maybe dual minor in Latin American Studies and Political Science.
Tufts was my first choice after much deliberation and i’m beyond ecstatic to be a future jumbo! I will be at Tufts during the summer for their BLAST program which is a program designed to help underprivileged students so I will be introduced to my future home a lot earlier! Tufts is a spectacular institution to say the least and i’d be willing to answer any questions or concerns!
